New 2nd Level School for Greystones

Local parents & educators are campaigning for Educate Together to be the new school’s patron. A decision by the Minister for Education & Skills is expected before the summer. The new school will open in September 2014.

Our Expression of Interest list is now closed but if you would like to receive updates on the patron application please sign up to our mailing list! If you have already submitted an Expression of Interest you will continue to receive updates so please do not submit another form.

The expression of interest in any patron is to assist that patron’s application. It does not entail any enrolment which can only occur after patronage is announced by the Dept. of Education & Skills.

Greystones the Possible Site for one of Ireland’s First
Second-Level Educate Together Schools

The North Wicklow Educate Together 2nd Level Action Group is delighted by Minister for Education Ruari Quinn’s recent announcement that Greystones is to have a new second-level school catering for 750 students completed by 2014. We are hopeful that, in only several years’ time, students of North Wicklow primary schools will be making a natural transition into one of Ireland’s first Educate Together second-level schools. The selection of Greystones for a new second-level school is a crucial step towards making sure that the students and parents of North Wicklow are afforded choice in education, and we are thrilled at the prospect of Greystones forging a new path by becoming one of Ireland’s first Educate Together second-level schools.

North Wicklow Secondary School is a proposed second-level school, expected to open under the patronage of Educate Together.
The school will follow the four core principles of the Educate Together ethos:

  • Democratically run.
  • Learner-centred.
  • Multi-denominational.
  • Co-educational.

These will be central to the process of planning, managing and the development of the school.

All this means is that the school’s pupils will be taught together, treated equally, encouraged to analyse, think and cooperate in their learning. Educate Together has created a second-level education model that will deliver an excellent education to our children which will be a basis for success in life.
